The MT-15 is Yamaha’s attempt to breathe life into their naked, small-capacity motorcycle portfolio in India. Where the FZ series has turned to more of a commuter focus, the MT badge globally defines the company’s youthful, agile and performance-oriented nakeds. The MT-15 borrows a lot of components, such as the engine, frame, suspension, wheels and tyres, from the YZF-R15 v3.0 - a motorcycle which has already impressed us quite a bit with its performance.
Yamaha MT15 Price: The Yamaha MT-15 is priced at Rs 1.36 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), which makes it just Rs 3,350 cheaper than the R15.
Yamaha MT-15 Specs and Features: The 155cc liquid-cooled, 4-valve, single-cylinder motor on the Yamaha MT-15 makes 19.3PS of power at 10,000rpm, which it has max torque of 14.7Nm that comes in at 8,500rpm. The engine is also equipped Variable Valve Timing (VVA) to make sure that the bottom-to-mid range performance is increase without hampering top-end pull. It gets a 6-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch. The bike also comes with a 100/80-17 front tyre and a 140/80-17 rear tyre - both bias ply. Braking setup includes a 282mm disc up front and a 220mm disc at the rear. But it only gets single-channel ABS as standard.
Yamaha MT15 Colour: The MT-15 is available in two colours - Metallic Black and Dark Matte Blue.
Yamaha MT-15 Performance: With a larger rear sprocket (52 teeth) compares to the R15 (48 teeth), the MT-15 offers strong initial acceleration. But then, it can’t match the top speed of the R15.
